Kapchorwa District was created in 1962 from the then Bugisu District.  It was called Sebei District and in 1980, it was renamed Kapchorwa District.  Two other Districts of Bukwo (2006), Kween (2010) have since been curved out of it.

Kapchorwa District is one of the Local Governments, under the Uganda Government decentralization policy, located in the east of Uganda.

We are the pearl of the Pearl of Africa.
The district's headquarters is located in the town of Kapchorwa.
Kapchorwa is found in Sebei sub region and its an endowed district with beautiful scenery like Sipi falls, slopes of Mt Elgon ,We do have great resources in Kapchorwa like fertile soils, water, and limestone , Leading producers of both food crops and cash crops like Arabic coffee, wheat, maize, Irish potatoes, cabbage and so on and above all home of great Athletes who have won Uganda great medals.
